Listen up kiddies!!! Its been a long fucking haul but things are finally starting to come together after being back for 6 months! After ruthlessly searching for Ivan's replacement we finally got James on the drums and have been rehearsing like mad. We should have an up-and-coming gig for the end of Feb or 1st Mar in our home city of Barrie. It will be our first in Canada..so it should be big! Be there or be square..Watch for the posting of the upcoming date.

6:43 pm - Album Review by Love_Flag
|
"I See The Truth" by Perish Ruby ----------------- So much to say, so little time. "I See The Truth" is a powerful Post-Grunge album that offers ten good songs which express a lot of anger and emotion. Kudos to the bass player with his killer riffs and the lead singer for a very hoarse voice that fits perfectly with the genre. Somehow, tracks like "Meltdown" or "Mary Magdalene" may have very different lyrics but the melodies and harmonies are pretty similar. However, the band DOES score high with excellent tracks such as "Standing in your shadow" or "Void" (with its very emotional lyrics such as "I'll never see your face again...") Oh, well. This debut is promising, raw, powerful yet it some songs tend to bleed into each other. What else can I say? Perish Ruby won't need a lot of luck. They already have tons of potential. ***1/2 (Three stars and a half) --Review by:Love_Flag

10:35 pm - BIO
|
The Canadian/Dutch alternative rock band Perish Ruby was formed in 2003 in Holland by bassist and vocalist Brent Spicer. Working and living in Holland at the time, Brent sought out drummer Ivan Weijdt and began forming the ranks of Perish Ruby.
After several failed attempts to fill their guitar roster, Brent realized he knew the perfect person for the job: his older brother, veteran musician Sean Spicer. Sean had released his own solo album and had made over a dozen guest appearances on other artists' cd's, such as Platinum Blonde and Paul London. This was definitely the man for the job! Sean flew to Holland in March 2003 and began recording Perish Ruby's debut album "I See The Truth". With the album underway, the wheels were set in motion.
The band's influences run deep within the pop and punk era of the 80's. Bands like Bauhaus, U2, The Cure, Depeche Mode and many more have all influenced Brent's musical writing. Later bands like Bush, Pixies, Manics, Charlatans, Radiohead, and Nirvana reshaped and matured Brent's style of writing into what you hear today.
With Sean and Ivan on board, the result is Perish Ruby's debut album "I See The Truth". Full blown, raw, edgy, and totally fucking mesmerizing!
After its release in Holland, the album gained notoriety with Dutch fans and local Dutch radio. At this point Brent chose to return to his roots and bring the album home to the Canadian music scene. He arrived in July 2004 with mixed feelings, as drummer Ivan was unable to continue with the band. Brent searched for months for a new drummer, auditioning hopefuls until he discovered James Sinopoli.
The band has been rehearsing and still continues to look for a rhythm guitarist. They have found a measure of success and popularity on the internet without even having played their first live gig! Perish Ruby is currently at around 15,000 downloads, plays, and cd sales from the internet alone since August 2004.
